EDITION 2021
NOVEMBER 10-18
In 2021, the Festival celebrated its first ten years of existence with a hybrid edition. As part of the celebration, the Cinemex screens in Los Cabos, Mexico City, and Mérida –the latter with a special screening presented in collaboration with Árbol Rojo– were lit up with two new sections: La Baja Inspira and Pantalla Dorada. We also enjoyed four panels and a special recognition of the careers of two consequential figures in cinema: producer Nico Celis and actress Ann Dowd. Also this year, We joined forces with the British Climate Crisis Film Festival to present the ingnate sessions program led by environmental experts, and curatorship of films with an environmental focus.

OUTSTANDING WORK IN CINEMA: PRODUCTION, TO NICOLÁS CELIS
Mexican producer. The tenth anniversary of the Festival was the perfect opportunity to pay a particularly special and meaningful tribute to Nicolás Celis, one of the most outstanding Mexican figures in cinema, for his participation in the national and international film industries. It was accompanied by the exhibition of his company’s – Pimienta Films – two most recent productions: Noche de fuego, by Tatiana Huezo and Drunken Birds, by Ivan Grbovic; a conversation moderated by the screenwriter and film director, Alejandra Márquez also took place.
OUTSTANDING WORK IN CINEMA ACTING TO ANN DOWD
American actress. As part of this tribute, there was a screening of the film Mass, within the Golden Screen section; there was also a talk with film critic, Arturo Aguilar.
In collaboration with the Climate Crisis Film Festival and thanks to the support of the British Council in Mexico, we presented a series of unique conversations that promoted green thinking in order to transform the practices that govern the film industry and develop new narratives that allow us to improve our relationship with the environment.
