Robert De Niro, one of the most extraordinary actors in history, presented the Latin America premiere of The Irishman, by Martin Scorsese, at the Festival's Opening Gala. This was an edition in which new spaces dedicated to the visibility of women in the film industry were opened, through initiatives such as Fantastic Women and the new section HerStory, together with new panels such as Extraordinary visions, where renowned female  photographers met to talk about  their work. ). We also collaborated with AMPAS (Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences) and welcomed its president David Rubin and its Director of Awards and Members, Lorenza Muñoz. The 2019 film program consisted of 42 national and international titles, of which 86% were premiered, with a total of 110 screenings.

  • TRIBUTE TO ELLEN KURAS

    American cinematographer who has collaborated as director of photography with filmmakers such as Spike Lee, Rebecca Miller, Martin Scorsese, Jim Jarmusch, Michel Gondry and Errol Morris, among others. As part of this recognition, Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was screened.

    SPOTLIGHT ON TATIANA HUEZO

    Mexican director and screenwriter. Due to her unique outlook and sensitivity, in this edition, we decided to highlight as part of our Spotlight program the work of filmmaker Tatiana Huezo, and screen a preview of Noche de fuego, her first feature film, a worldwide premiere. We also presented her previous work Tempestad and El lugar más pequeño.

    SPOTLIGHT ON IRA SACHS

    Iconic New York independent filmmaker. As part of this recognition we screened: Love is Strange, Keep the Lights On, and the premiere of Frankie.

    INTERNATIONAL STAR AWARD TO EIZA GONZÁLEZ

    The Mexican actress Eiza González received this recognition during our Closing Ceremony, for her contribution to the visibility of Latino talent in the world film industry.

    FANTASTIC WOMEN

    In 2019 we launched the Fantastic Women initiative, as a step towards the further inclusion of women in the film industry and a space where their voices could be heard. Mexican actress Yalitza Aparicio was chosen as the spokesperson for this initiative due to her work toward inclusion and diversity. Chilean actress Daniela Vega accompanied her to this event.
